Filipino adaptations of the four Package Learning Materials for the Environment (PLANET) was launched last August 2, 2013. Partners from the Department of Education, Benguet Division, Benguet National High School, local government officials from the municipality of La Trinidad and Province of Benguet, friends from people's and non-government organizations, and media representatives attended the launching.
These materials form part of PILCD's project on Strengthening Environmental Education in Schools and the Alternative Learning System (ALS) supported by the Foundation for the Philippine Environment (FPE).
The materials include four comics and four video materials:
1. Ang Tubig, Ating Buhay (Water)
2. Ang Kagubatan, Ating Kabuhayan (Forest)
3. Wastong Pangangasiwa ng Basura (Waste Management)
4. Ihanda ang Komunidad sa Kalamidad (Disaster Preparedness)
The PLANET materials were originally planned and designed by the Asia Pacific Cultural Center for UNESCO (ACCU).
These materials will be distributed to the participating schools of the Teachers Training on Environmental Education. A total of 120 teachers including ALS mobile teachers will be involved from the province of Benguet and Zambales.
The first batch of the Teachers Training among teachers from Benguet will be from September 13-14-15, 2013 in Baguio City.
This program is part of PILCD's thrust in the promotion of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in the formal and non-formal education.
